We are planning to clear the river again this weekend, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th starting at 10am.
We have an easier task this time because Jonathan Blanch has just trimmed the riverbanks in School Field and Gary Marshall with Peter Williams have been keeping the Glebe Field riverbanks clear.
Frank, of the newly-named Pettifers Hotel opposite has kindly offered to provide us with sustenance & support.
Please forward this invitation to anyone you think might help – the more the merrier, & its a great way to meet people.
Thanks, John 0796 106 5000
Flooding did happen in Crudwell. It was caused by inattention and neglect.
Road levels and riverbanks had been raised yet the river was allowed to block.
Extreme floodwater passing through Crudwell could not escape onto the flood plain as in the past.
In 2007 there was the blockage seen above so flooding was inevitable – and it happened (see below).
After that 2007 flood the river banks were lowered & the riverbed cleared and widened.
Our mission now is to keep it clear to flow downstream and prevent future flooding.
Let’s meet at 10am this Saturday & Sunday in the fields downstream of the A429 bridge.
Bring wellys, waterproof gloves & hand tools to chop and remove weeds.
Spread the word, it’s a unique chance to meet neighbours and do something constructive together.
See you there, John McWilliam, Crudwell Flood Warden (0796 106 5000)
