Play Area Update

I wrote in a previous blog entry about new play equipment for our younger residents. Well, I’m very pleased to say that at long last . . . . we have a date!
The new facilities are designed for 2-4 year olds, and the equipment will be installed in the playground next to the Village Hall in the week beginning 8th December. During that week, you may find the playground is unavailable at certain times, so everybody stays safe while the four new items are put in place.
At the same time, we will be repairing the damaged paving by the swings.
Please bear with us while we upgrade the playground, and we’re sorry if the Village Hall car park is a but busier than usual while the work is going on.

A defibrillator for Crudwell

Over the last year or so, the Parish Council has been researching the idea of an automated external defibrillator, or AED, in Crudwell. You may have seen yellow boxes on the walls of public buildings in nearby villages such as Sherston and Kemble, and we thought Crudwell ought to have the facility as well.
An AED is an electronic box of tricks which can help restart the heart of someone who has suffered a major heart problem. Today’s AEDs are designed to be used by ordinary people, and provide either a video screen, or spoken commands, to tell you what to do.
We are still working with a number of different organisations to sort out which AED to buy and where to put it, as well as important things like insurance, but we hope to have it installed by Christmas. In the meantime, if you have comments, or you have previously used an AED, please tell us by using the comment form below – or post on our Facebook account. And if you do find yourself in an emergency situation, don’t wait: Dial 999!

The (ex-)Tree in The Butts

Stuart in The Butts was working quietly at his desk today when he heard a loud crack. Inside, all was quiet. Outside, the wind had blown over one of the horse chestnut trees opposite his house. Stuart grabbed his camera and took this photo of the damage.

Please be careful if you walk down The Butts ,as the pavement is blocked on the west side. We have reported the fallen tree to Wiltshire Council, using their “MyWiltshire” app (available on Apple or Google smartphones and tablets), and are waiting for the debris to be cleared away. Later this year, we will be planting the trees given to us under the Malmesbury Waitrose planting scheme – more news on those later.
